Day 26 - Mt. Rainier

It was pouring down rain when we got up and it had been raining for sometime.  Supposedly we can see the mountain from our campsite.  All I see are clouds.  The weather is described today as "drippy."   .Errands to fun first and then we're off!

Fuel, post office, barber shop....Barber shop?  Many of you long-time readers know that if David gets a haircut on vacation, it's normally a disaster. Mt. Airy, NC - almost scalped.  Alamogordo, NM - military haircut.   I did talk him out of the $8.00 hair cut place.  We saw a "real" barber shop next door to the post office, so in he went.  Outside was a real barber pole turning, so how could it go wrong?

First question the lady asked him - "Do you want a mohawk?"  Seriously!  He told her he didn't want a mohawk, a high and tight, or anything really short....just a trim.   She was okay with just a trim, but asked him one more time about the mohawk!  When he came out, he had a great looking haircut!  Now he won't have to wear his hat 24/7.

Off to Rainier.  Did you know it was the 5th National Park created?  We visited here 2-3 years ago when David had a job here in town.  I'd take him to work and then drive back in this vicinity.  So many places I remember I went, but forgot David had not.  He does remember the small town of Elbe and the trains and church.  Photos next time we go by.   He remembered how far up the mountain we went before we were turned around due to heavy snow.  He remembered we had pancakes in the restaurant at Longmire and visiting the National Park Inn there.

We're here!

Here's the mountain!

Beautiful, isn't it?  Well, it's not what I saw.  It's a postcard!

This is what we saw.  The parking lot from the visitors center!

This is the visitors center.  It''s the Jackson Center at Paradise.  It's a neat place.  We didn't get to see the movie as the power was out in the building, but we're going back the next day and we'll see it then.

We did get our picture taken outside:

There are items referring to all the volcanoes in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and California.  I'll take more pictures so I can show you what it looks like.

Quick lunch and down the mountain.  Here's the view of the road with the snow falling.  Snow?  Yes!  It was snowing and they already have 120" on the ground!

We did see animals along the road.  Not sure what the first one was:

This one I know.  David spotted two of them in the woods just off the road:
Bambie!

Back to town and back to the rain.  Really enjoyed the day!  Where else could a Southern girl play in falling snow in June?

I did find out that two of "my" Southeastern Bible College alum are nearby.  Vernon Smith offered to meet us in Puyallup where he's moved.  Figured out really quick he needed help unpacking!  LOL    Nicole LaRue actually lives in the same town were camped in.  We're trying to meet, but everyone knows how busy schedules are!  Maybe....

Back to Rainier tomorrow!  We passed a place that sold Yak Burgers.....

See ya down the road!

Jenny :)
