Weather: 58 degrees and sunny. Pretty windy!
View outside the campground in Tucumcari:
Somewhere outside the RV is an owl. We can hear it, but can't find it.
We finally pull out at 8:46 a.m. headed for Pueblo, Co.
Glad the wind isn't cranky today. David says we have a head wind today.
Not much to see along the road. We're still driving west on I-40, but will turn north to eventually pick up I-25 into Colorado. We passed through Las Vegas, NM (elevation 6,415' and also rode part of Route 66. Stopped for lunch at 11:41 a.m. Lunch was funny!
We pulled off the road at a rest area - no facilities. Glad we carry ours. We had leftover chicken and potato salad. I decided I'd get a small lemon pudding cup and have it for dessert. Remember the elevation? It also has an effect on our food. I pulled the foil top off the pudding and it sprayed into my face! We've notice milk cartons and water bottles get "sucked in." Now we know to watch what we open!
Antelopes
Tumbling tumbleweeds
Santa Fe Trail
Snow on mountains!
Colorful Colorado!
Chrissy has a water bowl on the transmission hump and pulls it up on the seat when she wants water. We pour it from a bottle and she drinks it. I normally pour it back into the bottle carefully and she drinks it later. David had an empty Styrofoam cup and he poured the water into the cup. The cup sits in the cup holder. Chrissy realized it had water in it and she could drink out of it, so we added to the water during the day.
Old Faithful! David hit several hard bumps in the road and the next thing we know, there's a geyser in the truck. Water is flying out of it!
We're in the Mountain Time Zone and a bit confused on the time of day. At 4:00 p.m., we gave the road up and pulled into Colorado City to a beautiful KOA. It's windy and cool and great to be off the road.
Estes Park tomorrow and the Rocky Mountain National Park. The trip really begins!
Oh, to show you what it would have looked like on the trip in the 1920's:
See ya down the road!
Jenny :)
