Day 43 - Williams, AZ

We left Laughlin at 4:30 a.m.  We were hoping to get out of the heat and get up some "hills" before it got to hot for the truck.  Almost worked!

We pulled out and headed towards Kingman, AZ.  It began to run a little hot, but didn't require us to stop.  We left before eating breakfast so we found a McDonald's that had a parking area for RV's.  It's not like you can just pull into the drive through with a big truck and a 31' trailer behind you!  LOL

We ate quickly and got back on the road. We began to climb the mountains and the truck ran hot again. We pulled over, let it cool and back on the road.  No A/C on and it didn't run as hot again.

This day was pretty uneventful.  We arrived at the Grand Canyon Railroad RV Park and checked in.  We also checked in Chrissy for her stay at the kennel the next day.  David asked Adam (guy who checked us in) about a local mechanic who could look at the truck.  He recommended Malone's on the edge of town.  We got the trailer set up and David left for Malone's.  He didn't come back and he didn't come back.  Finally!  He's back!

He couldn't find Malone's so he came back to the campground office and got the directions again.  This time he found it.  Only one man was one duty at the garage, but he stopped what he was doing to look at the truck.  He and David both thought the fan clutch had gone bad.  We'd already changed out the water pump and knew it was working.  David asked him how certain he was it was the fan clutch and gave him a really high percentage, but added he would check.  David cranked the engine and the guy put a rubber hose into the fan!  The fan stopped!  Had it been working, the fan clutch would have kicked in and thrown the hose back toward the mechanic.  He told David he could get the part in about 10 minutes and get it fixed quickly.  He even offered to drive David back to the campground so he wouldn't have to wait.  But David decided to wait. In no time, he had it fixed.  IT NEVER RAN HOT AGAIN!  YEA!!!

Williams is on Route 66, so we drove back into town to see it:

We got back, had dinner, and Chrissy got her favorite food - a Fuji apple.

We went outside and decided to play Mexican Train Dominoes on the picnic table.  It's comfortable outside and a little cloudy.  Next thing we know, it's thundering and starting to rain!

Time to read a bit and up early to go to the Grand Canyon!

See ya down the road!

Jenny :)
